Highlights

4:20 p.m. ET | Chelsea and Guus Hiddink have options to replace Thibaut Courtois because David Luiz, Kenedy and Asmir Begovic are all out of injury for Chelsea. But the starting lineup you’ll see will depend upon the match regulations.

Chelsea is likely to rest Courtois, who has not played since suffering an arm injury in his last win over Liverpool, for this one because he has another match in the Champions League in three days.

Juventus have VAR in the Champions League which will impact matches to the extent that Serie A is slated to have one of the tallest pitch dimensions in the league’s history for next season.

The current rule is that three times more goals are scored on pitches this high than the lower pitches. Juventus feels that’s not enough and will try to achieve a three-to-one ratio on pitch height of the higher pitches in the coming years.

That’s not to say we will never see Shrunken Checkers, but the effect of the technology will definitely be felt next season, regardless of how many yards they added to the pitch. And if that’s too much to ask, European soccer will undergo the biggest overhaul in regulation in history. There is still a lot we don’t know about the technology, but we will keep an eye on the technology as we get closer to the next Champions League match-ups.
